Hey guys! Today I want to write about something which I haven’t discussed on my blog before, and that is nothing other than Dropshipping using shopify. If you don’t know what is dropshipping is, it is basically the selling of products without having actual stock and having goods directly delivered from the supplier/manufacturer. I always loved the idea of dropshipping even before I started affiliate marketing. I was always fascinated by it, however at that time there was no way for me to get started as it was hard to find reliable product manufacturers and building e-commerce platforms to start selling.
Thanks to Shopify and Aliexpress , that problem has been solved, and anyone can start dropshipping easily. Now here is the problem, many people might have already tried and failed, but in todays post I will provide you with a simple guide which will help you to build a profitable dropshipping business using power of Shopify and Aliexpress.
Since I moved to Dubai I learnt one of the an effective technique from retailers within Dubai, which they always use to make the most money. A perfect example would be Day to Day (Same as Dollar/ pound stores in UK and US), a Discount Shopping Center from where people can buy products at very cheap rates. Now considering their price, you won’t believe store makes much profit, but in my personal experience, whenever you buy products from a discount store, you end up buying much more than what you came to buy. I even sometimes buy unwanted stuff which I don’t ever use. Why? because everything is cheap and its human phycology that we always try to save money!
How to implement the idea!
Select a niche product
It’s a broad topic however just to give an idea, People usually buy gifts, keychains, accessories related to phones, TV, Cameras and other kind of electronics, Decorations, toys, household products, Jewelry (earrings, rings, necklaces etc.) Basically, anything which doesn’t make a hole in your pocket and is cheap. It could be something which people need all the time.
Setup a Shopify Store
Once you have decided on the types of products you will be selling, for the next step, you will need a Shopify store

Once you have Signed Up, you need to give your store a name, come up with something catchy and attractive. Create a store, and setup a Shopify theme. Normally, I stick with the default store theme, as i try to keep things simple. However, you can also look around through their theme marketplace and browse through many other ecommerce store themes, and purchase the premium ones as well.
Design a Store Logo
This is important as you don’t want to give your buyers an impression that some keyboard warrior is just trying to scam them or run a test/trial store to test whether they will buy their product or not. So, you do need a professionally done logo, you can create one yourself using Adobe Photoshop, or even with online tool canva.com (Normally used to create banners and social media graphics, but I also used them to create some awesome looking logos as well). Or you can simply outsource this task on any freelancing website. Make sure your logo looks professional.
Install Oberlo plugin
So, everything is setup, now it’s time to add the products! Mind, adding products traditionally from Aliexpress is a process that can’t be done in minutes, and keeping track of their prices and availability is a big headache, so for that we would be using a Shopify Plugin called Oberlo. Oberlo will allow you to import dropshipping products directly from Aliexpress into your Shopify store, and ship them directly to the customer, while maintaining all the required records. Make sure you also install their chrome extension in your chrome, as it helps you to select the products for importing into Shopify. In Oberlo settings add your profit margins. Get Oberlo here!
Picking the products from Aliexpress & Adding to store
Now comes the most important task, what type of products to pick and what filters to apply. First make sure you have the following filters checked; Free Shipping and 4 star ratings and up, to find cheap products you should sort products by price from lowest to highest.
Now select the products, to import them using Oberlo extension and edit their titles, tags, and descriptions and add them to their respective collection and category on shopify.
Note: It’s important to include unique and your own description, and if you can find better images of the products replace them with the default images by the Aliexpress.
Pro tips: –
- With cheap products, you can also add some high value products to increase your profit margins. For example; with a 1-dollar product you can also suggest one or more $5-20 value products to increase sales.
- With lower pricing products, you can easily increase your profits margins for example you can easily sell a $0.39 product for $60 or even $1.
- Have more related products: People tend to buy more, so our objective here is to have variety of the products… Giving our visitors more variety of products so they can order more than one product. For example; during one of my test by landing on under $1 products people ended up spending $20-$50 for the cheap products.
- You can also add shipping charges instead of increasing the prices for the products, as you would be getting free shipping from Aliexpress supplier, so technically that’s where you make profit as well.
Getting Traffic and Sales
Now you need a Facebook fan page to start generating traffic. Create a new Facebook Brand/Product Page and complete the process (make sure you add the cover picture and Facebook profile picture).
Now it’s time to launch the ads, Create Facebook ads and link to the cheapest most products available on your website to lure your visitors to your website. Personally, I only use sidebar ads on Facebook as they don’t cost you a lot. Also, I have noticed targeting female audience produced best results for me. I would highly recommend you to use audience insights tool to find the right audience. Make sure you don’t forget to use retargeting features as well.
